For best taste, GFB’s should be consumed within 4 months after purchasing. Shelf life is 6 months when stored at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you plan to take a long time to eat your GFB’s , you should keep them in the refrigerator or freezer – in fact, many GFB fans like them even better out of the fridge. 9. I noticed there are 10 grams of fat in a GFB - that seems high - is it? Well sort of - the GFB is high in good fats - heart healthy monounsaturated fats that come from natural sources - peanuts. These fats are not only good for you but they keep you full and satisfied longer. Further, GFB only contains 1.5 g saturated fats and zero trans fats – and trans fats are the fats that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and affect blood cholesterol levels. We could reduce the fat to less than 10 grams by using highly processed reduced-fat peanut butters but that would go against our goal of providing real and simple nutrition. 10. What is the source of the sugars in the GFB? The sugars come from Brown Rice Syrup and Agave Nectar – both of which are low-glycemic ingredients. 11. What does Low-Glycemic mean? The Glycemic Index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrates according to how they raise blood sugar levels after consumption. High-glycemic foods are rapidly digested and absorbed. Low-glycemic foods digest and absorb slower, thus producing gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels, which is optimal for those with diabetes. Low GI diets have been shown to help those looking for weight control because help control appetite and delay hunger. 12. Are GFB’s good for those with Diabetes? In addition to being low-glycemic, GFB’s contain less sugar than most other comparable snack bars (both gluten-free and non-gluten-free).
